Hi, Everyone,
Half the time I have no idea what day it is.That's why I call this one "Whensday"-- 20 songs, each with "Day" in the title, including at least 1 song from Sunday-Saturday, in order. Let's go! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5tooQGS4JsxmskJjfjW4lL?si=JULEUWAoQcuALMeaGfRUJQ 1. "Eight Days a Week" The Beatles. We have eight days, if you count "Whensday." I once saw Ringo with his wife at Whole Foods in Beverly Hills. 2. "Groovin' (On a Sunday Afternoon)" The Young Rascals. Blue-eyed soul from the sixties. Felix Cavaliere was insane. One of the best bands I ever saw live. 3. "A Sunday Kind of Love" Etta James. R&B dynamo. What a voice. I saw her live, too, at House of Blues. She blew the roof off. |
4. "Monday Morning" Fleetwood Mac. Originally a British blues band, came to U.S., added Lindsey, Stevie, went pop, sold 120 million records and stopped talking to each other.
5. "Monday, Monday" The Mamas and The Papas. Folk, pop, melody, harmony, Cass Elliott, Michele Phillips, Iconic song. And it's only Monday.
6. "Rainy Days and Mondays" The Carpenters. Brother/sister combo from New Haven. But it's all Karen who sings and plays the drums. This song makes me farklempt.
7. "Tuesday Afternoon" The Moody Blues. British alt rockers, progressive rockers, rock mixed with classical, whatever. I would lie on the floor and listen to them for DAYS.
8. "Ruby Tuesday" The Rolling Stones. Monster hit in the sixties. Keith wrote this song about his girlfriend. "I think she was my girlfriend," he said.
9."Wednesday Morning, 3. A.M." Simon and Garfunkel. Released as a single. Did nothing. Beautiful song. About a thief & one-night stand. Hey, I needed a Wednesday song.
10. "Rain Every Thursday" Bobby Hutcherson. Vibraphonist supreme. Nice midweek change of pace.
11. "Thursday (Here's Why I Did Not Go to Work Today)" Harry Nilsson. Quirky, inventive, jazz singer. Swedish. Born in Bed-Sty. The Beatles loved him.
12. "Friday on my Mind" The Easybeats. One of Australia's top rock bands a while ago. That's all I got.
13. "Black Friday" Steely Dan. Blending jazz, rock, blues, R&B. I love these guys. "When Black Friday comes, I'm gonna dig myself a hole." Are we there yet?
14. "Another Saturday Night" Sam Cooke. One of the greatest voices ever. Added the "e" to his last name. No idea why. Murdered in a motel at age 33.
15. "Almost Saturday Night" Dave Edmunds. LOVE this song. Welsh, major player in the New Wave of the early seventies. Formed Rockpile with Nick Lowe.
16. "(Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night." Tom Waits. Brilliant songwriter. I played his music constantly. "Dreaming of the Saturdays that came before..."
17. "Saturday Night at the Movies" The Drifters. A force on the R&B charts, despite their many personnel changes. This lead sung by Johnny Moore.
18. "Saturday in the Park" Chicago. Called themselves a rock n' roll band with horns. Combined jazz, classical, whatever, they had like a hundred members.
19. "One Fine Day" The Chiffons. Girl group R&B greats from the Bronx. #1 hit in 1963.
20. "All Day and All of the Night" The Kinks. The Brothers Davies led one of the most influential British bands. "All Day and All of the Night." Yep. We're here 24/7. ALL the time.
That's it. Enjoy whatever day this is. And, don't forget.. PLAY IT LOUD!
