5. "Nick of Time" Bonnie Raitt. Catchy albeit depressing song about aging. Bonnie grew up in Burbank. Maybe why she was depressed.
6. "Wrote a Song for Everyone" Mavis Staples. R&B, gospel goddess. Allegedly dated Bob Dylan.She says they were "just friends." He says, "You got a lot nervvve."
7. "By Your Side" Sade. Nigerian superstar, phenomenal song from her hit album, "Lovers Rock. Real name Sade Adu.
8. "Shut Up and Let Me Go" The Ting Tings: British duo, Katie Winter and the boyfriend. Try not to dance, I dare you.
9. "Two Lovers" Mary Wells: The Queen of Motown, sang hit after hit in the sixties, this one written by Smokey Robinson This is the ultimate ode to schizophrenia.
10. "My Song" Brandi Carlile. Singer, activist, and what a voice, love this song, an anthem. "My mind is full of razors..."
11."Think" Aretha Franklin: Early smash hit from the Queen of Soul, pride of Detroit. She refused to fly. Won a special Pulitzer in 2019.
12. "Come Away With Me" Norah Jones. Jazz, blues, pop, Norah can sing anything. I love this song. Daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in Bed-Sty, home of great people.
13. "Because The Night" Patti Smith. Punk poet laureate, co-written with Bruce Springsteen. I prefer her edgy, urgent version.
