Friends,

If you know me at all, you know the theater's in my blood. Here are 12 great songs--an "Overture" & 11 from musicals at least one member of my family has seen.

1. "On Broadway" The Drifters: My Motown overture. The neon lights are gone until at least until Labor Day. "But I can play this here guitar..."

2. "Helpless" Hamilton: How I feel most of the time.

3. "Seasons of Love" Rent: Meh play, great song. "How do you measure a year? A life?"
4. "Sunrise, Sunset" Fiddler on the Roof:  "I don't remember growing older, when did they?" I cry. Every time.

5. "Totally Fucked" Spring Awakening: How I feel the rest of the time.

6. "There's a Fine, Fine Line" Avenue Q: This song gets to me, and it's sung by a puppet.

7. "Say No To This" Hamilton: The catchiest song ever about blackmail. Plus we need two from Hamilton, minimum.

8. "Somewhere" Tom Waits: The hippest, jazziest version of West Side Story's signature song by my favorite frog-voiced crooner. You'll either go "Wow?" or "Huh?"

9."Circle of Life" The Lion King: The greatest opening number in the history of musicals, period.

10. "Omar Sharif" The Band's Visit: Gorgeous song from a quiet, tender, and beautiful musical.

11. "Inner White Girl" A Strange Loop: Fantastic musical. Won the Pulitzer 2 weeks ago.

12. "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" Hair: The musical that changed everything.

Here's the link again. Hope you enjoy this week's quirky playlist. One more thing--
PLAY IT LOUD.
